Turkey gets serious

New limits on hazardous chemicals will come into force from May 21, 2015

In Turkey, the rules on chemicals are always more rigorous. The list of hazardous substances whose use in consumer products is subject to quota actually becomes longer starting from this year.

Let's step back. In April 2011, Turkey published the Notification n.27893 which states that some consumer products containing azo dyes, six different types of phthalates (BBP, DBP, DEHP, DIDP, DINP and DNOP) and three flame retardants (PBBs, TEPA and TRIS) will be subject to  market surveillance.
A new act, published on January 14, 2015 on the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey (Notification n.29236), led the list of the categories of chemicals subject to restrictions from 3 to 10. A notable news concerns the division of the above mentioned phthalates in two groups of three, in line with the provisions of Annex XVII to REACH.

Let us remember that REACH Regulation n.1907/2006 of the European Parliament has replaced in large part the legislation previously in force on chemicals, introducing a single, integrated system for registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction (REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals).

The new provisions will come into force on May 21, 2015, whereas the limits relating to the chemicals mentioned in the 2011 Notification are active for some time. It’s better not to be caught unprepared and to rely on Brachi. Our laboratory is a guarantee, thanks to high level services ranging from consulting to the analysis on restricted chemicals. In Italy, Turkey and all over the world.
